TBR List: Summer 2020 Addition
The To Be Read List for Your Summer Season.
It’s almost here! Summer! * Cue Olaf singing “In Summer” * Bring on the pool days, hot summer nights, vacations, etc. If you’re like me, no summer is complete without a good book to accompany all of your favorite activities. So without further ado, here are the books I am recommending to get you through your summer.
Titles marked with a + indicate personal favorites.
Thriller
+ The Sun down Motel - Simone St. James
This book is downright creepy in the best possible way. The Sun Down Motel is part ghost story and part true crime. It’s told through two points of view and bounces back and forth between each of the main character’s time periods. This story has all the right components of a thriller. It will have you hooked from the very beginning and guessing until the very end.
My Perfect Wife - Clare Boyd
I love a good psychological thriller! This one kept me guessing literally until the very end. The author weaves a tale that takes you through the lives of two different families, venturing into the private demons and struggles of each. Clare artfully draws you in and leaves you wondering which of them is sane and which is about to crack.
The House Keeper - Natalie Barelli
In a book where everyone has something to hide, who do you trust and who do you root for? It may have been too much for Claire when she see’s Hannah Wilson for the first time in ten years. Really it all comes down to this… When someone else’s secrets and lies ruin your life, when is revenge justified and when have you gone too far?
+ The Wives - Tarryn Fisher
I am already a fan of Tarryn Fisher, so this book was a no brainer for me to read when it was released. (I may have actually had this one preordered…) If you are a suspense/thriller junkie than this one is for you. It will have you flipping-through-the-pages nervous and wondering what is real.
Young Adult
+ The Cursed Series, Parts 1, 2, 3, & 4 - Rebecca Donovan
Run, don’t walk, to grab this one! * This is not a paranormal series despite the title * This story starts out as one thing and then evolves into a beautiful coming of age, overcoming adversities, learning to love & forgive journey. This is the type of story that stays with you and will have you coming back for more. Rebecca Donovan writes such depth and emotion into her work, it will captivate you from the very beginning.
Charmed Souls - Abbi Glines
Okay, real talk. I love Abbi Glines. I’ve read everything that she has ever published. She puts the angst in YA romance. Charmed Souls is an easy read that you will breeze through and then join the rest of us who are not-so-patiently waiting for the next in the series. This one, and really all Abbi Glines, are for the YA romance fans! Bonus points for the paranormal aspect!
+ Regretting You - Colleen Hoover
My husband once read over my shoulder on an airplane and said, “She is next level.” Colleen Hoover doesn’t just write. She emotions. It is safe to say that you will find at least one Colleen Hoover book on every TBR List I ever make. I don’t even read the synopsis on her books anymore, I just preorder. Everything this woman writes is amazing. And this one is Colleen at her best.
Fiction
+ Where the Crawdads Sing - Delia Owens
Beautiful. Heartbreaking. Captivating. I didn’t want it to end. This book will move you. The resiliency, growth, and survival instinct of the “Marsh Girl” is inspiring. Delia Owens created an empowering story about a girl who overcomes all odds. You will laugh, you will cry, you will root for the “Marsh Girl” until the very end.
Autobiography
Open Book - Jessica Simpson
Not going to lie, this one took me by surprise. I am not a fan of autobiographies, reality TV, or celebrity life, though all three tend to be popular in culture. I am a fiction reader 100%. Yet, this one was so highly recommended that I gave it a go. I am so happy that I did. Jessica is raw, real, and, like the title says, an open book. I found her story, her perseverance, and her determination inspiring. It was also fun to get an inside glimpse of the era and pop culture that I grew up in. Open book is great for those who are a fan of the underdog, have ever experienced self-doubt, struggled with the mental battles that can accompany weight issues, and how faith can align with following a dream in a secular culture. It is also fun for anyone looking to relive the 90s!
I hope you enjoy this TBR List! If you read or have read any of these I’d love to hear what you think. Happy Reading!
xoxo
